“Uhhhh…You Could Shoot at Them?”

Yesterday I bumped into an old coworker and I was reminded of a situation that took place a few years before he moved to another company.

I was at work one day when this coworker stopped by and knocked on my office door.

“Hey Lucas, I’ve got a bunch of old, rusty, half empty 1lb and 2lb propane tanks in my garage, do you want them?”

I couldn’t think of a reason why I would want these things, so I asked why, and received a perfectly logical reply:

“Uhhh… You could shoot at them?”

Needless to say, I declined his offer, even though shooting at propane tanks did sound like a lot of fun.

Its kind of funny the things that people will offer you when they know you’re into shooting:

Months later another co-worker said he had some ammo, wasn’t sure exactly what it all was, but if I wanted it, it was mine. I said yes, I want it. He was perplexed that I would want unknown ammo, but a couple weeks later we met up outside of work, and he gave me a milk crate full -FULL- of ammo. Free ammo is like free beer, you always take it, no matter what it is.

That was a good day.

  1. I have about 30 empty propane tanks, they make excellent targets

  2. Yes! I had a few empty 1 pound tanks and decided to see what a .223 would do to them.
Well, it was disappointing. The 55gr. FMJ went completely through like it wasn’t there. Exit hole was just a bit larger than the entrance hole, and the tank didn’t even move. I shot them at 50 yards. The local recyclers would not take them unless they were punctured to relieve any pressure or residual gas.
Next is to see what a 7.62X54R .308″ 180gr. Nosler Polymer Tip Spitzer BT will do to one from my Mosin Nagant 91/30!
