Michigan Becomes a Real Shall-Issue State

Post by Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners. Michigan has always had a weird CCW permit system that involved “County gun boards” that had the final say in whether or not someone would get their permit. Hardly what we’d call “shall issue” these days. I’m glad to see Gov. Snyder ditching the County gun boards in favor of a real shall issue system.

Dang Duck Hunting Disturbance

I received a couple text messages from my Dad this morning saying that it was a beautiful day in Northern Michigan to do some duck hunting. He went on in the next message to say that he didn’t get any ducks because someone landed an airplane in the middle of his decoys…

“Orange Hats For Men” Against Guns

Tonight I came across this picture on Facebook: I know the picture is a little hard to read, here’s what it says: “Orange Hats for Men, based in Lake Odessa, Michigan, is a club for men who agree not to be armed in public. Michigan Legislature Passes HB 5085 Allowing Handguns at Camp

As you know, I grew up in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and it’s an absolutely gorgeous place. I spent most of my summers backpacking, hunting, canoeing, and shooting with my friends from Boy Scouts. One of the best parts of summer was heading up to Camp Greilick for a week of scout camp. During the day at scout camp, we spent a lot of our time working on different merit badges, and in …

Michigan: Short Barreled Rifle Bill Headed to Gov. Snyder

It’s no secret that I grew up in northern Michigan. Spent a lot of time hunting and fishing, and trying to sort out the absolutely wacked firearm laws up there. For years the state had handgun registration that required taking the proof of purchase of your pistol to the police department to register it (I’d really like to see the number of handguns sold vs. the number that were actually registered). Rifles that were perfectly …

Might as Well Just Get Rid of Gun Free Zones…

A bill introduced in Michigan this week will allow special carry privileges for victims of violent crime. But, under a piece of legislation just introduced by a Saginaw Township lawmaker, victims of domestic violence or stalking would be given special permission to carry a concealed weapons in those “gun-free” zones. So, once someone becomes a victim, they would gain the ability to carry concealed in places that regular concealed carry permit holders cannot carry. I …

Bizarro Week: I Hate Deer Hunting

Blasphemy, I know. I grew up in Northern Michigan and spent every fall wing shooting, and deer hunting with my dad. I always looked forward to bird hunting because it was fun to walk around the woods while BSing with my dad, and watching our old Springer Spaniel “Springer” work. After small game season ended, firearm deer season always started on November 15th. I always put on a good face for deer hunting, but I …
