Cyclists: How do you carry?

Cycling was my primary hobby for a long time before I got into shooting. I reluctantly gave it up about 7 years ago when I was having some issues with numbness in my hands that I couldn’t deal with. I’ve decided to pick it back up since I’ve lost about 65lbs, figuring I might not experience the hand numbness issues now that there’s less of me. Way back on the podcast we answered a question …

North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit Renewal

I’m finally set up with my new (renewed) Concealed Handgun Permit. This has been a long process, so here’s a rundown for those interested: March 25th – I received a letter in the mail from Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison stating that my permit was up for renewal, and that I should start the process soon. Sometime around the end of May, I filled out the application for renewal online, paid the fee, and scheduled …

Well, that was easy.

A couple months ago I received a card in the mail from Sheriff Harrison stating that my CHP was up for renewal. This is my first renewal, so it was a new thing for me. Last month sometime I went to the WCSO website and filled out the online form and paid for the renewal through their website. At the end of the online session I had to schedule an appointment at the Sheriffs office …

Must Listen: The St. James Massacre

A couple weeks ago in the “Plug of the Week” on the podcast we plugged Mike Seeklander’s new podcast called the American Warrior Show. In the most recent episode Mike interviews a man named Charl Van Wyk who took on 3 active shooters. Van Wyk had a 5 shot .38spcl revolver, and he was successful in ending the attack on the church against shooters with automatic rifles, grenades, and bombs. “Violence is the immoral use …

Question for Competitive Shooters: Do You Carry to the Range?

Miguel posted an article about a doctor that was involved in a defensive shooting this past weekend, who per some reports was on his way to the Mississippi Classic USPSA match. When the victim was attacked, his pistol was in his range bag. Luckily he was able to get to the pistol and get to work on the bad guys shortly thereafter. This brings me to my question: Do you roll up to a competition …

Raleigh Judge Grants Injunction Against NC Law Barring Permanent Residents from Obtaining CHPs

For several years now, I’ve been pretty outspoken about some of the changes that need to be made surrounding NC concealed carry law, and one of the things that I’ve always thought needed to be changed was that NC law did not allow the issuance of concealed handgun permits to people who are non US citizens. On the surface this seems logical, until you realize that there are many people living among us citizens who …

Gun Industry: Get it Together with Weapon Mounted Lights

I want to see some gun, holster, and weapon mounted light companies all lock a bunch of their engineers into a room for a couple days. Maybe they’ll come up with a solution for carrying a pistol with a weapon mounted light that doesn’t suck. Currently our options are giant lights (which we know don’t have to be that big, just look at the small flashlights out there right now) in giant holsters made of …

Stepping Up Your CCW Rig in Wake of Terrorist Threats?

Am I the only person that has went back to a doublestack “wonder 9” for CCW after hearing about the recent al qaeda ISIS threats to behead people in the streets, and the Sydney siege incident where people were held hostage in a cafe until it was stormed by police? There’s something much more comforting about having 16 rounds on my hip, with 15 more in a reload than there is with my previous 8 …

Tuckable Holsters: Who Uses These Things?

Last week I posted about following the #kydex hashtag on Instagram. I keep seeing comments on holster pictures over there like this: “I really wish this was tuckable!” “This would be better if it was tuckable!” I want to know, does anyone actually carry daily with their shirt tucked in between their gun and the holster clips? I’ve tried it a time or two with my Crossbreed Supertuck, but I’ve never been satisfied enough to …

Glock 19 Concealed Carry Modifications

As you probably know, I recently picked up a Gen4 Glock 19 as a new concealed carry pistol. I wanted to go back to a doublestack gun, and I also wanted something that was very similar to my Glock 34 that I shoot in competition. I don’t tend to make a lot of modifications to my carry pistols, but I’ve done a couple things to the Glock 19: Custom Grip Plug Funnel Glock pistols have …
