While driving today I heard a commercial for a home security company that said something like “If you have to keep a 9 iron under your bed to feel safe at night, your home is dumb.” Here’s another one “A bat for protection? Dumb.”
I find it kind of funny that home security companies market their products as a tool that will keep you safe while you are sleeping. Let’s be honest here, a home security system does basically nothing to keep you from needing the 9 iron (or 9mm) under your bed. If someone breaks into your home with the intent to do you harm, and your only means of defense is your home security system, you are in a world of hurt.
Just like we don’t rely on the sound of a shotgun racking to scare off someone wishing to do us harm, we also shouldn’t get complacent and rely on the sound of the home alarm to scare someone off.
