US Rep. Amends Bill to Defund DC Gun Control Laws

An amendment was added by Rep. Massie (R – KY) to the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act of 2015 today that would allow for concealed carry, and repeal the “assault weapon” ban in Washington, DC. The amendment was successfully added to the bill, and the bill passed out of the US House, and is on it’s way to the Senate.

According to Rep. Massies website his amendment will not allow Washington, DC to use any taxpayer funds to enforce many of their gun laws.

“Criminals by definition don’t care about laws. They will get guns any way they can,” said Rep. Massie. “Strict gun control laws do nothing but prevent good people from being able to protect themselves and their families in the event of a robbery, home invasion, or other crime. Studies indicate that murder rates rise following bans on firearms.”

I think it’s great that Rep. Massie is looking out for us. Many of us would love to visit DC, but I really don’t like the idea of driving up there, getting lost, and winding up in a bad neighborhood without my blaster. I’ve been lost in DC in the middle of the night, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. I don’t think this amendment stands a snowballs chance in hell of getting through the Senate intact, but it’s at least nice to know there’s someone out there on our side.

It’s a shame that the folks in charge of the city where the Constitution resides don’t take the time to read and understand it.
